How does the Canon R7 hold up for landscape and wildlife photography in remote Australia?
I've thoroughly put the R7 through its paces now. Over the Australian Spring, I spent almost two weeks about as far east as you can go, and then a week and a half about as far west as you can go!
My kit was: Canon R7; Canon 15-85mm; Canon 10-18mm; Canon 100-400mm mkii; Sigma 18-35mm f1.8; Nisi ND Grad filters (2 stop hard, 3 stop hard, 3 stop soft, 4 stop reverse, 4 stop medium, CPL); Dji Mavic 2 Pro; Sirui Carbon Fibre T-025x Tripod; Kingston Canvas React 128GB + 64GB; Lowepro Protactic 450 awii for lugging it all around!
It all held up marvellously well. I never found myself limited by the R7's dynamic range, which is a significant step up from the Canon 7dii. I found I didn't need to use my filters nearly as much; they felt more like a creative option than a necessity. Similarly, the noise has cleaned up easily using DXO Pureraw 2. My main battery never ran out on a daily shooting session, but I had two backups anyway.
The R7 definitely resulted in more keepers for bird shots. Pretty challenging conditions too - often tracking kites from a rocking boat.
Goes to show that you can get some great shots using a fairly cheap kit stacked with crop sensor lenses on a crop sensor camera.
